Family Matters and More Storage

Maya has earned a permanent dolly role in Morristown.  The next story will more than likely take place at the hair salon.  Maya is the youngest sister, with Karla being the oldest, and Kara being the middle sister.

"What's up with that dress?  I hope you didn't wear that to work?"  (Karla)
"Are you seriously asking me that question in that get up you have on?"  (Maya)
"This is a classy outfit, and my boobs aren't hanging out all over the place."  (Karla)
"I'm sure once my boobs start sagging, I, too, will cover them up."  (Maya)

"Ladies, can we get this picture out of the way?  I have to get back to work."  (Kara)
"She always try to act like my mother.  So irritating!"  (Maya)

"The last thing I would want to be is your mother.  I already have one immature daughter."  (Karla)
"Smile, ladies."  (Kara)

These sisters remind me of the Braxton sisters.  Not in looks, but in their mannerisms.  Maya would be Tamar Braxton.  Karla reminds me of Towanda, even though Towanda isn't the oldest sister, and Kara would be the level headed, Toni Braxton.  If you are not familiar with the Braxtons, Toni Braxton is an R&B singer, who started her solo career around 1991.  Tamar used to sing back up for her, until just a couple years ago, when she pursued her own solo career.  She is currently one of the co-hosts on the talk show, The Real.  The family also has a reality show called, Braxton Values.

Well it didn't take Holiday Barbie 2014 long to hop out of that box and attach herself to a family.  Janianah, from Jaye's Doll Space, left a comment on my last post, that got me thinking this lady should probably be deboxed.  She is Charles' mother.  As a remind, Charles is Lisa's husband.  Lisa and Charles are in counseling trying to save their marriage.  Lisa and her mother-in-law have an okay relationship, but Lisa blames her for Charles not being able to be the man she needs him to be.  More on that later.

Thought I would share a couple more of my storage ideas.
I found these great jewelry holders at the dollar store sometime last year.  They came on hangers, which makes it easy to hang them up for easy access.  I plan to get more of these if I can find them.  It's so much easier to quickly put some of the small items here for easy viewing.

This one is not from the dollar store.  I think I paid $9 for this one.

I've been asked how I store my clothes.  I've tried various ways, and ended up with using these canvas bins for most of the casual clothes.  I have two bins for lady clothes (one for dresses and one for separates), one for lady outerwear, and one for all male fashions.  This works best for me, because I can easily dump out each bin, find whatever I need, and throw everything back in without too much fuss.  It's also easy to pitch clothes into the right bin when I am undressing dolls.

I know they look a mess, but it's the easiest way I've found so far to get to the clothes and put them away quickly.  These bins fit nicely on one of my bookshelves, too.  Currently, I have the Barbie Style clothes and the Sparkle Girlz fashions in separate plastic bags.

Back to the bins I spoke about two days ago.  I am so excited to have moved to this doll storage method.  The beauty of this is that this method can grow with my collection.  Above is a picture of my Asian doll drawer.  Looks like I will be starting a second one soon.  The nice thing is that I can move this first bin close to the second bin and still keep the different category of dolls organized.  These bins will probably be sold forever, so I can continue to buy them as needed.  Some of the dolls shown are still dressed.  For the most part, I store the dolls naked.

One cart will have my body donors and loose heads.

My Second Doll and Storage

I recently picked up the AA 2014 Holiday doll.  She was $9 at Walmart, and I couldn't pass that up.  She will remain in the box until I need her.  The dress is nice, so I can see one of my dolls wearing that for a function.  She is the first regular sized doll I've purchased this year.  I don't know if I will make my goal of only 10 dolls, but I'm doing pretty good so far.

Here is an update of my sketch I shared with you guys.  As of this morning, she now has hair.

I have a new way of storing my play dolls.  Walmart reduced the price of these storage carts to $9.  They are perfect for storing my dolls in the quantities I need.

I think I have now have six of these carts.  This will make it much easier to find the dolls I need for each story.

Tea House Conversations

Kimora Lee Simmons of Baby Phat is in town to visit Racquel at Ni'Chalets.  Racquel wanted her to meet Lena, as an up and coming designer.  It's Monday and the three of them are meeting for tea at the tea house.

Racquel is running a little late, so Lena is taking the opportunity to pick Kimora's brain.

"I'm so excited to be able to talk to you in person.  What is the best advice you can give as a new designer?"  (Lena)

"My best advice would be to never take no for an answer.  People are very quick to say no, even when you are talented.  They feel they have to break your spirit.  Just stay strong and keep moving forward."  (Kimora)

"I know all about being told no.  Fashion designing is my dream, so I'm prepared to go the distance.  I love that you are able to be a great business woman, and a fantastic mom all at the same time.  How on earth do you do it?"  (Lena)

"My children are everything to me.  They are the reason why I'm so driven in business.  It wouldn't make sense to neglect them in the process.  So I just do my best to include them in every aspect of my life."  (Kimora)

"Racquel.  It's about time you joined us.  Sit.  I was just telling your friend Lena how cutthroat the fashion business is."  (Kimora)
"Well, I hope you don't scare her off."  (Racquel)

"Well if she gets scared off by something I say here today, she's not strong enough to be in this business."  (Kimora)

Meanwhile, in the tea room next door, are Tina and Celia.  They stopped to have lunch after leaving Nikki's office.

Tea and lunch have been delivered.  Tina has been anxious to bring up Darius and decides to take the plunge.

"So what on earth was going on with you and Darius back there?"  (Tina)

"I don't know what came over me!  I just never expected to see him again.  So when I did I guess I just lost myself for a minute.  He looked even better than I remember."  (Celia)

"The way you were acting, I would have thought you guys became members of the mile-high club....together.  You didn't did you?"  (Tina)

"Oh Tina."  Celia chuckles.  "Of course not.   But I'd be lying if I said it didn't cross my mind."  (Celia)
"Celia!"  (Tina)
"What?  A hot, young, tenderoni showed some interest.  I just showed a little interest back.  I'm older.  I'm not dead."  (Celia)

Tina shakes her head and starts shaking salt on her salad.

There's an uncomfortable pause in the conversation.

"Did I do something wrong?"  (Celia)

"No, but Nikki is my friend and I have to admit I was a little embarrassed by what happened in her office today."  (Tina)

"You are a grown woman, so you are free to do whatever you see fit.  I don't pass judgment.  I just wished whatever happened between you and Darius had stayed out of Nikki's office.  Now I'm going to feel awkward when I see her and the last thing I need, while planning my wedding is more tension."  (Tina)
"I really am sorry.  Would it help if I called her and apologized?"  (Celia)

"I don't know if that will help or hurt.  Maybe we should just let it go for the time being."  (Tina)
"How's your salad?"  (Celia)
"A little salty."  (Tina)

"Lena, I wish you all the best.  And remember, be fabulous in everything you do."  (Kimora)

"I wish I didn't have to run, but I promised the kids I would only be gone for two days.  If you are ever in my neck of the woods, stop by."  (Kimora)
"Thanks so much for everything."  (Lena)

The Kimora Lee Simmons doll was borrowed from my 7 yr old neighbor.  I am so jealous that she has a Kimora doll and I don't.  That's why Kimora had to fly right back out, because I only borrowed her for the day.

Valentine Love (Photostory)

It's the morning of February 14th.   Rod and Danielle have had a wonderful night, if you know what I mean.  When they awoke that morning, Rod presented Danielle with her first Valentine present, a dozen roses.

"Happy Valentine's Day, honey.  Thanks again for my roses."  (Danielle)
"You're welcome.  You were incredible last night."  (Rod)
"You always say that."  (Danielle)
"And I always mean it.  (Rod)
They lay silent for a few minutes.  Danielle listens to Rods heart, as she lays on his chest.

"So I was thinking, we'd take a shower together, then I'd fix you breakfast..."
Before Rod can finish, Danielle chimes in.
"Honey, I can't take a shower with you, I just got my hair done."  (Danielle)
"It's just hair, we haven't taken a shower together in ages, and I miss it."  (Rod)
"But I just spent hours in the salon... "  (Danielle)
Before Danielle can finish, Rod butts in."
"Well, maybe I can help you change your mind."  (Rod)

Rod bends over and fishes under the bed for something.
"What are you doing?"  (Danielle)

He pulls out a Tiffany bag.
"This is your second Valentine day gift, that I will give to you after our shower."  (Rod)

"Are you seriously holding my Valentine gift hostage for a shower?"  (Danielle)
"When you say it like that, it sounds kind of blackmailish."  (Rod)

"But we will sit it right here for now."  (Rod)
Danielle lets out a sigh.

"Can I trade that shower in for a bath together?  That way my hair won't get messed up."  (Danielle)

"It's not the same, but if you give me a kiss, I'll think about it."  (Rod)

Suddenly there's a knock on the door.
*KNOCK, KNOCK*

"Ssshhh.  Maybe they will go away."  (Rod)
"They know we're in here.  Besides it might be an emergency."  (Danielle)
"It's never an emergency."  (Rod)

"Who is it?"  (Danielle)
"Me!"  (Julian)
Danielle covers up before saying,
"Come in, Me."

"Good morning, son.  Happy Valentine's day."  (Danielle)
"It's Valentine's day?"  (Julian)
"Sure is, what can we do for you?"  (Danielle)
Julian runs and jumps on the bed.

"Why don't you give your mother a hug and a kiss and tell her Happy Valentine's day?"  (Rod)
"Okay."  (Julian)

"Happy Valentine's day, Mommy."  (Julian)
"Thank you, sweetie."  (Danielle)
They hug and kiss....and kiss....and kiss.

"Alright, that's enough.  There won't be any left for me."  (Rod)
Julian starts giggling as Rod pulls him away from Danielle.

"Son, why don't you go wake up Sharmaine and ask her if she can fix you and Jacob some breakfast.  Your mom and I need some time alone, so I can give her a couple more gifts for Valentine's day."  (Rod)
"Okay."  (Julian)

Julian gets distracted by the big mirror near the door.

"Son!"  (Rod)
"Okay.  Okay.  I'm going."  (Julian)

With Julian gone, Rod turns to Danielle.
"Now you know that little interruption is going to cost you."  (Rod)
"It really could have been an emergency."  (Danielle)
"Speaking of emergency, I have one right now."  (Rod)

Hope everyone had a wonderful Valentine Day.  Rod and Danielle did.  Rod even got his shower with his wife and Danielle got the gift in the little blue bag.  Julian and Jacob.....they got Mickey Mouse shaped pancakes, thanks to cousin Sharmaine.
